For transparency, accountability, African finance ministers pledge reforms

 African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development have expressed commitment to enforcing the essential reforms wanted to promote transparency and accountability to mobilise domestic and exterior resources.


The ministers stated this in a communique at the cease of the UN Economic Commission for Africa’s (UNECA) 53rd Conference of Ministers of Finance and Economic Planning and Development in Addis Ababa on Tuesday.


It was titled  “Communique of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development on special drawing rights for low-income and middle-income countries”.

The ministers mentioned that African nations had proven the benefits of deploying technological know-how to increase revenues, adding that many countries on the continent had delivered e-taxation to increase useful resource mobilisation.


They referred to that international locations have been deploying digital systems to engage nearby communities in the oversight of public spending and transparency, such as via information-gathering on public service transport and the monitoring of expenditure commitments.


They brought that African governments have been strengthening their tax administration structures to identify, song and stem illicit economic flows (IFFs).


The ministers additionally expressed optimism that extra African international locations had been enhancing the enabling environment for business.

“The comprehensive reforms being undertaken by African countries must be complemented by the availability of more resources for all countries.”
